How it is calculated
Price before VAT = (cost + expenses per unit) ÷ (1 − margin ÷ 100). Markup is calculated on cost; margin is calculated on the selling price. The effective margin may vary slightly due to rounding.
Example
With $70.00 in cost and $5.00 in expenses, a 25% margin gives a $100.00 price before VAT, $25.00 in profit and a 33.33% markup on cost.
What this calculation covers
Use unit costs excluding recoverable VAT. Allocate expenses per unit before entering them. Margin is calculated on the price before VAT. It excludes discounts, percentage commissions, income tax and demand validation.
The VAT-inclusive price is a reference only if the sale is subject to 13% VAT.
